FAQ:
What happens during the church service?
The focus of our Sunday morning gathering is God Himself—He is our audience, so to speak! We do not strive to offer entertainment; rather, we gather to express our devotion to God through songs, hymns, the reading of scripture, prayer, and a message designed to help us understand God’s Word and His will for our lives. We also gather to encourage one another in our walks of faith, to support one another through the various obstacles and challenges that we face, and to view our lives in light of God’s eternal perspective.
What should I wear?
What people wear isn’t an issue at MorningStar. No one will call the fashion police to complain about your outfit or to judge you for what you choose to wear. Some people at MorningStar will be dressed up because that is their custom, and if that is what you are comfortable doing, then by all means, wear your “Sunday best!” But if you are a person who does not like to wear dress clothes, you will find plenty of others like yourself. It is quite acceptable to dress casually and comfortably.
Is there anything I need to bring?
If you have a Bible, bring it along so you can follow the Scriptures referenced during the service. But if you don’t have a Bible, no worries. We have plenty and would be glad to give you a Bible to keep.
How many people attend MorningStar Community Church?
Our worship services are generally attended by about eighty people. We are a multi-generational church – some are very young, others young adults, others middle aged and others are “golden aged.” Some have attended for just a few weeks and others a few years and others for most of their lifetime. Everyone, regardless of how long they have attended, is important to us and to God.
Will I be pressured to give money to the church?
Certainly not. We understand your concern—many churches and preachers are known for trying to make people feel guilty if they don’t give money to the ministry. We do have an offering time in most services in order to give our members an opportunity to help meet the needs of the church and to support our missionaries around the world. Giving a portion of our financial resources back to God is an act of worship. People who give to the Lord always discover that they can never “out-give” Him, but the decision to give or not to give or how much to give is a personal one.
What will happen if I fill out an information card?
We hope you won’t feel intimidated about this. No one is going to show up at your front door (unless you request a visit and even then we will call to arrange a time best for you) or ask you for money or obligate you in any other way. We feel honored by your visit and are interested in who has joined us for the service. We want to do more than notice your face in the crowd and hope that you will be interested in getting to know us! We also want to be able to let you know when something special is happening. Of course, you are under no obligation to give us your information, but we hope you will.
Who leads MorningStar Community Church?
MSCC is led by a group of leaders we call the Council of Elders. Elders are also referred to as pastors, overseers, or bishops in the New Testament. Some churches have adopted a leadership model that places one pastor over the church, much like a corporate CEO. We operate by the leadership model of the New Testament churches—a group of men overseeing the ministries of the church and making decisions that align with the Scriptures.
Will attending a church service make me a “good” person?
Simply attending a church service does not make anyone “good;” only God is good, and only He can make us good. Getting involved in a church family gives us the opportunity to grow in faith, to gain wisdom, and to get to know people who appreciate and practice qualities such as mercy, compassion, and forgiveness. Our goal, as individuals and as a community, is to become more like the Lord Jesus Christ in the ways that we think, act, and respond to the circumstances of life. As we learn to walk with God, His goodness will shine through our lives and make Him known to others.
Is there anything else I should know?
Be yourself! Come with an open heart and mind; we trust that God’s Spirit will bless you, comfort you, renew you, restore you….whatever your need, we know that God can meet it. We know this first, because, God has promised in His Word to meet all of our needs in Christ Jesus and, second, because He has shown Himself to be faithful in our midst. We promise to do our best to make attending MorningStar a good experience for you and hope that God will use us in some way to encourage you.
